96 Impreza Outback rough idle *new info*

I’ve posted before with limited responses, but now I have some more
info that might help. I have a 96 Impreza Outback LX with 113000
miles. When in Drive or Reverse and stopped, the car runs very rough.
Here’s the thing. If I stop quickly, it runs rougher. whereas if I
stop slowly it doesn’t run as rough. Regardless of how fast I stop, it
gradually gets better during the time I’m stopped. But as soon as I go
and stop again it’s the same thing over again. I’ve replaced plugs,
wires, air filter.

If someone has an idea of what this might be, let me know.
Thanks,

Barry

Clean the throttle body. A dirty one causes much of the same symptoms
you describe. Report back ed

Auto Transmission. How do I clean the throttle body/where is it?

The throttle body is where the butterfly lets air into the engine. It
is just downstream of the air filter. Take the air cleaner off. If you
then move the throttle back and forth you will see the air opening and
the throttle. Take some throttle body cleaner and spray on a clean rag
and open the valve and clean the valve and Ventura. Hope this helps.

Do you have a strong fuel scent ? or does it blue smoke ? while ruff idle?
If yes then i would check the oxygen sensor.
