Just posting this for general info, as the other thread was referring to the
2004 WRX rather than a Legacy.
My foglights have been non-functioning for a while. A combination of
difficulty in replacing and not having much fog kept me from trying to fix
them. Today though, I decided I'd try again.
Based on some information "John" posted here on August 7, I found out that
indeed they are a twist connector. I'd tried to remove them that way before
but found that I couldn't get the darn things off. I figured there was a
special tool or something that I wasn't about to bother with. However, it
ended up being that a set of channel locks was all that was needed.
My driver's side light was easier, since due to my body shop ordeal from 3
years ago, my car is missing the plastic liner from that side. (But that's
another story.) For the passenger side, there was only one plastic plug
holding that part of the liner in place, removing just that one I was able
to fold that part down and gain access to the light. I had the driver's
side light changed in a manner of minutes, but since I only had one bulb
(bought back when I only NEEDED one bulb!) I took a trip to the store and
got another.
Wouldn't you know it, it started storming hard as soon as I got back. I
waited a half hour for it to pass and got back to work. Now everything was
wet and I couldn't get a grip on the light assembly with the channel locks.
Angry, I grabbed it with my hand and twisted as hard as I could, and
amazingly it came loose. (Although no doubt I loosened it with the tools,
or perhaps it was the rainwater.) After drying everything off and
reassembling, I'm happy to report that both lights work again, and although
I used two different bulbs, (GE and Sylvania) the lights are the same color
and appear to produce the same amount of light.
Again, I want to give credit where it is due, so thanks to John for the
channel lock idea!
