3rd Gen Legacy Automatic Trans Reliability?

Recently sold my 4th gen Legacy, regretting it already, I love my Outback but there's something about driving a Subaru sedan for me, idk. I personally think the 3rd gen looks better than the 4th, my wallet also agrees. What is the general consensus on the reliability of a 3rd gen auto trans? I know the manual trans would be a safer choice but around me the manual Legacy's in general seem to be way more miss-treated than the automatics. I'd rather have an automatic than a molested manual, I also have a little Honda shit-box for banging gears, so it's not really something I'm itching for.
