Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a way to leave the start stop option off as default on the 2024 Crosstrek? I've only had it for about a week, coupled with hearing complaints here about battery issues, and added wear and tear on the engine and CVT (plus, is it really saving gas, worth it?).

I have friends who have older models and went with the button and fuse inline option. However, I have the bigger screen on the 2024, and need to turn it off every trip. It doesn't look like this is an option for me, as it's all computerized?

Unfortunately . there's no way to leave it turned off permanently. It's programmed to come back on everytime you restart the vehicle, so you just have to remember to turn it off again, whenever you get behind the wheel.

It's a CAFE fuel economy thing. They get X MPG including the standard use of the start/stop feature. So it defaults on each time you start the vehicle. For me it's not a big deal...

It does just what you want. Simply. Plug it into the CAN bus. Instructions for most makes, models and trim levels can be found on their site. Unplug it and take it with if you sell the car. No changes to the vehicles wiring needed.

Yep! Mr. Foster is correct! My brother has one of these and it works like a charm! Good idea to disabled this feature, as it destroys your engine and battery, but does save an eyedrop of fuel! That's all big brother cares about!!

Thank you all for the responses. I'll look into Autostop Eliminator in the long term.

hi there, you said start and stop destroy the Battery really I have an Outback 2020 Battery work fine since 4 years and still working great I have hundred of start and stop no issues so saying it destroy the battery you have a faulty battery.

The input from Mr. Foster is very precise, and using his instructions in concert with the Auto Stop Eliminator installation video looks very "do-able."
Unlike most of the folks who post on these forums, I'm NOT mechanically gifted, and am very "hesitant" to undertake the installation. I have a couple friends who are VERY gifted and I might see they'll install for me.
But I have a related question: "Will Subaru dealership technicians do the installation of such an 'after-market' product?"
I'm going to straight out ask my dealer & techs.
What do you all think? Possible or Certainly NOT?

I doubt seriously if any dealership would install it. However watch the videos to see how easy it really is. I'm a handy mechanically inclined type but this one really is very easy as it is a plug and play affair. However if you're all thumbs finding a techy type to help shouldn't be very hard.

You can purchase a module that is installed by your mirror that will switch it based on the last setting when the ignition was turned off. ~$100 on eBay or Amazon.

I don’t turn wrenches anymore, I pay others to do it. But the auto start stop eliminator is so easy, if you can plug in computer components you can do it… the videos they offer, you could get a monkey to do it.

I think I'm somewhere in the middle between you two. I'm mechanically inclined, so I could do it once I get the correct module for my Crosstrek '24. That said, I've heard the jury is still out on how much fuel efficiency you gain with this, and it is hard on the starter (that said, starters of today are much more resilient). In classic boxer engine fashion, it's loud on restart, even at warm, not sure how much this would impact the battery, as it shouldn't need much juice to restart the engine when you factor in the running alternator. Who knows the long-term implications or benefits.

I'm mostly driving in a congested urban area, so it's constantly starting and stopping thanks to traffic and poorly timed traffic lights here. Maybe down the road, an update from Subaru could save the state of both start / stop and auto-brake. Those two remembered would be the sweet spot, for me anyway 🙂

You can avoid the stop by not pressing the brake pedal fully.

Yep, I figured that out. I actually like the auto brake feature though, I have it on a Toyota as well. I wish the Subaru would remember the last state like the Toyota. Which is why it would be nice if it remembered the last state for both, the auto brake (on), and auto start stop (off).
