I'm getting ready to sell my 2013 Outback and purchase a 2022 or 21 Ltd XT, but I have concerns about the roof racks. Even with Thule racks on my 2013, widening the space between the cross bars, I've had problems carrying longer equipment like long kayaks, SUP's (12' long), canoes etc. The spacing between the crossbars on the 2021/22 Outbacks is even narrower than the 2013 and the new design of the roof racks means that you can't purchase 3rd party to widen that gap between the crossbars without removing the factory roof racks entirely, which I really don't want to do.

Would love to get some feedback from owners of the new Outback carrying longer sports equipment and if adding Thule or Yakima racks improves what is safely possible to carry.

Thanks!
