2019 Crosstrek Premium= rear cross traffic Alert

Love my 5th SUBARU, this one has a weird thingy. Bought new, and surprised us a bit when, in a parking lot between 2 humongus old gas eater suburban type tanks, we went to back out & go elsewhere when the rear traffic alert system alerted us about a pedestrian coming up on our right rear. Great ! but it said nothing about that in the manual. It spoke about TRAFFIC, like other cars, trucks, etc, but not people. So, we just enjoyed the improvement . Then we had a bumper bender by a landscaper in a pickup, which was repaired except for the pedestrian warnings. The Book, 2 or 3 mechanics, and some techs said we were dreaming about pedestrian warnings. Nothing in writing to work with and so . . . . . .HOW TO FIX IT ? ? ? Many people here have those extra large tanks that clutter up the store parking slots, so we really lost a great convenience.. . . HOW CAN WE FIX IT ?
