My 2015 Impreza with about 58k miles apparently has developed corrosion/rust build-up on the LR wheel rim. The rust buildup is preventing the tire from sealing to the rim and is causing a persistent air leak (and potentially the other tires eventually). At only 58k miles, isn't this a bit odd? I live in the Seattle area and the weather conditions are fairly mild except for rain and the occasional snow storm in winter, so harsh weather conditions don't appear to be at fault. My mechanic has already filed down the rust once, but 2 weeks later the tire gauge light is back on - signaling the air leak is most likely back. He recommends replacing the wheels - probably all four of them. For a barely driven car over the last 10 years, this seems like a faulty Subaru issue (even though I'm long past the warranty expiration date). I'm wondering if a call to Subaru is in order for more information?

Has anyone else had this happen to their Subaru?

Filed??? That seems quite extreme. Most of the inner parts of the wheel are bare metal, so a drill and wire brush get the job done. New wheels sounds like an expensive path. My 25 year old New England weather rims have zero rust. There are many refurb wheels available if you decide to go that route. They usually buy the old ones too.

Pics might be helpful.
