I'm about to get rid of this Subaru. At 50,000 miles, it uses a quart of oil every 1,500 miles. No leaks, no blue smoke. This thing eats oil. The dealership has been reluctant to do anything. It has the 2.5 with the CVT transmission.

I don't know if this applies to the 2014 Outback you have, but I have a 2013 Outback 2.5. The engine was covered under a recall due to high oil consumption at 99k miles...1qt every 880 miles. Seems the oil scraper ring and power ring were reversed when the engine was built. I got a new shortblock from Subaru at 99k miles. Now has 205k on the car (105k on the new block), and absolutely no problems...I get about 5k to the 1/2 quart.

We got rid of it. The 2014's were not in the recall. We had two oil consumption tests done and it "was on the high side of normal". We found the dealer overfilled it. I was looking for a new vehicle but didn't pull the trigger on an Ascent because of this issue and ended up with a Pathfinder. My wife traded the Outback in for a Highlander.
