Bought a 2011 forester with a bad engine knock, the plan was to swap it with a junkyard unit. Bought a really sweet engine "guaranteed to fit" really clean and obviously newer than the one I have. So far I've noticed the flywheel, motor mounts, wiring harness, ( same amount of sensors it looks like but the main plug comes out on the drivers side as opposed to the pass side) a/c compressor, power steering pump (just a pulley on the new engine) are all different. There may be other differences too, but it looks like I can swap all of that over. The big stumbling block is this rubber hose on the pass side rear of engine that looks like it comes out at the intake level, goes to the vehicle, then returns and goes to the pass side front of the engine by the oil pan area. What is this, and can I use this engine? Can I block it off or join the hoses together? Please advise, and thanks in advance

Have you looked at the parts diagram for both models to compare?

Pics can help, also.

Part of the problem is I'm not sure of the year or anything else of the junkyard engine it is supposedly a JDM engine. Been really pressed for time, will have to get pics up asap

Update, its a 2014 or newer eng, i was told to block off the rubber hose on both ends which we did. We also had to swap the coils from the old engine since they had to stay with the old wiring harness (different than the new ones). Problem is they were also longer, so we swapped the valve covers as well. Also, we had to swap the metal fuel line where the flexible fuel line first goes into the engine as it was different as well. Oh- and the oil and water temp sensors had to stay with the old harness too but an easy swap. I think thats everything, the new engine cranked right up and has been running with no engine light or any other issues for about 10 days.
