E-J25 engine blew up so I bought a used one with less miles (91,000). I brought it home and after further inspection I noticed that it has replaced FelPro head gaskets and the timing seems newer as well ( has faded timing marks on the belt and l believe new timing components). Now my question. Do I trust it or do I pull it apart and put Subaru parts on it. I’ll hear a lot of mixed opinions on Fel-Pro gaskets and I’m willing to put the money into it if it means that they will last longer. I also hear people use Fel-Pro without resurfacing them because for some reason they work without resurfacing. I would just like some honest opinions in the matter from people that have this engine. I know that with this particular engine, there are a lot of head gasket issues and I don’t wanna have to keep on pulling this engine out.

I can tell you that head gaskets were done on my 2000 GT at 154k miles and we used the metal STI gaskets instead. Not sure about others. The metal ones are supposed to last forever. It still has beastly compression at 215k miles.

I have a Fel-Pro gasket ready to go on my oil pan. My Subaru guy said don't bother...it'll just leak.
