2008 Subaru Outback with only 1,041 miles on it?

I'm looking for a used Subaru Outback and found one on a Subaru
dealers webpage it says it has only has 1,041 miles on it.
Should red flags be flying? that mileage seems awfully low almost
unbelieveable.

I'm surprised it hasen't sold yet but this seems almost too good to be
true. They want $20,995 for it.

One Pontiac dealer had an '88 Fiero with 4500 miles on it.

Could be a demo they were keeping for some reason, or one of those little
old lady deals where someone bought it, didn't drive all that much and
then sold it. My Mom's Camry has 84,000 miles on it, and it's an '86...

My MIL just bought a Forester and I GUARANTEE it won't get 1,000miles
a year.

Might be possible - however, low usage is considered 'extreme duty'
because condensation doesn't get evaporated out of the fluids by heat.
IF they can show records that all the fluids were changed according to
the TIME portion (not mileage) of the maintenance schedule, then they
can ask extra $$$ for superior condition. If not, be prepared to
change every fluid and hope there's not some latent problem lurking.

kbb lists $21,435 for 2008 outback in excellent condition
but I could not see myself paying that much for a 4 y.o.

when a new 2.5i stripper would run you only $2k more
(I checked in zip 95124, ymmv slightly)

You'd be foolish to pay $21k for a 4 year old car when a new one is
only a bit more. They want $25-26k for used Jeep Wrangler Unlimiteds
and a new one can be had for $28k or so. WTF would buy a used car for
that much?

+1 what AD says. However I don't recall you saying what model Outback? base
2.5, Premium or Ltd?
Compare vs a similar model. Next, check the CarFax history, will give you
some info on the mileage and prev. owners.
