My Forester clearly has a miss with stalling at idle. Getting a P0301 code which means a miss on number 1. There is no smoke in the exhaust. The plug in number 1 is black and dry. The other plugs have that nice ash color. A timing light on the number 1 only flashes intermittently and never flashes at idle. The timing light on the other wires all flash normally. So I replaced the plugs and wires with NGK parts with no change.
That leaves the coil, right? Could there be something else wrong? Before I replace the coil, is there a way to check it to prove that that really is the problem?
