So I know there is not an easy answer but here it goes. My Legacy's transmission let go. There is fluid in it and it appears in good condition but when I put the car in gear the engine races and the car barely moves. It does run in reverse as far as I can tell. The car has 213,000 miles and the engine is still strong after new heads at 150,000. Is it possible to put a later model 5 speed auto to replace the 4 speed automatic? Should I get a JDM engine and transmission or is that just too much work. For some reason I am having trouble letting my Subi go.
