1992 SVX How to Tell if AWD is working

C

Curtis

Hello,

We had our first snowstorm in the northeast this weekend and this is
the first time my daughter has taken out her SVX (bought during the
summer) in snow. It did very poorly - not as good as a front wheel
drive car and not in the same league at all as my forester. She has
driven it about 8000 miles without any major problems and its done
very well.

Today it was sitting in my driveway as I shoveled and I decided to
move it up a bit. It has a fairly gentle incline. The car would not
move with even a tiny patch of snow just around the front two tires.
Only the two front tires would spin - the rear ones just sat there.

This is a '92 LSI and does have the transfer case in the back. There
is no fuse in the FWD fuse holder and no FWD light is lit on the dash.
From all I can tell, the rear wheels should be pushing, but I don't
think they are.

So, can some of you longer term SVX owners comment? Should the front
tires spin and the rear ones just remain unmoving? If not, any idea
why the AWD system is just going along for the ride?

I just had this exact came issue happen to me with my 2002 Forrester.

Help!

Erik
