Check engine light was on for sometime. Had a mechanic tell me that th
O2 sensor needed to be replaced. The car was running great UNTIL h
replaced the sensor.( The sensor he replaced is located under the hoo
on the left) Afterward, the car would jerk and ran like crap! Also wa
losing about 100 miles per tank of gas. I finally just disconnected th
darn thing until I can figure out what the problem is. The car is no
running great again, with the sensor disconnected. The sensor he pu
on has one black wire, and two white wires. My car has one red, on
black, and one white or very light grey wire. Is it possible that i
was wired wrong? Does anyone know the correct color connection? Als
another mechanic told me that the O2 sensor is around the exaughs
(spelling) and that there is a MAP sensor. Is it possible that thi
person did not install the correct sensor? Please help! I cannot affor
to pay a huge repair fee for this. I don't want to run the car foreve
with the engine light on and I want to fix this ASAP.
Thanks!
Robin :confused

I would start by asking the mechanic to recheck to see if the O2
sensor is the correct one and look over his shoulder while checking
the book.

The O2 sensor is sensing the amount of oxygen *in
your exhaust flow*, so yes...it's in the exhaust.

Where did your first mechanic put this "O2
sensor"?

The first sensor was installed under the hood on the passenger side o
the car. You can see this when you look just under the air intake. Ca
you tell me what sensor IS located in this area of the car

If it's a sensor mounted on the air intake
ducting, it's probably your MAF or MAS--think of
an air flow meter.

The sensor is not connected to the air intake. You can VIEW it jus
below the air intake. The sensor isnt connected to any part per sey
just some wires. Just sort of sets alone

I'm assuming you're the original poster, here--
I've lost track.

If you have a sensor that's NOT inserted into the
airstream of the intake, and NOT inserted into
some exhaust piping, that sensor is either:

a) not your MAF/MAS or O2 sensor;
--or--
b) is one of the above, but not properly mounted.

That's the best I can do, with the info given.

I have the same MAF problem--Same car-- what is a fair dealer price to do
this job and replace same??
