I have an 03 imprezza outback sport that I have been fighting with for the last 2 and a half years. If I need to hit the gas or go up a hill it sputters and hesitates. I have changed the ignition coil several times, the plugs and wires several times, the oxygen sensors several times. I have also replaced the catalytic converter, the fuel filter, the fuel pump and the map sensor. They all provided very short term relief. Does anyone have any other ideas before I push it off a cliff. My mechanic and I are completely at a loss. Thanks in advance

How did this turn out?
I was thinking about the only thing I didn’t see was the air filter. Hope it worked out.

You need to have someone actually diagnose and repair the problem. Shotgunning parts is no way to fix anything.
Those are classic symptoms of a restricted intake or exhaust system. Meaning the engine may be having a hard time breathing. But, as I said that just a clue, not a conclusion.
It could very well turn out to be fuel or spark or even something deeper like bad head sealing perhaps. If in doubt, do a cylinder leakdown check. That can at least help point the way.
